Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institution Announces Major ExpansionMarch 23, 2016
The Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (VTCRI) has made a major announcement regarding the creation of a Health Sciences and Technology Innovation District along South Jefferson Street in the City of Roanoke. This announcement coincides with the recent announcement that the General Assembly has approved $46.7 million to double the size of the current VTCRI building, which will add approximately 105,000 square feet of additional space and 25 new research teams with and create up to 250 research positions. As part of the creation of the Innovation District, Va Tech will house 500 – 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the district who will work alongside research teams and medical students. These announcements will create a significant positive economic impact to the entire region, and will position Roanoke to be a global center for health care research.
